Why ‘Speshal’?

“No matter what, you are Speshal.”

A few years ago, my kid handed me this handwritten note on a day when I was particularly riddled with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and negativity — a day when I felt I would never accomplish anything ever again.

The sweet gesture came at the perfect moment. It was a reminder that people believed in me — and a reminder that I should believe in myself, too.

What I love most is that "special" is the only word misspelled. It was like the note was telling me: You’re so special that spelling rules don’t apply! You’re not just "special," you’re "speshal!"

It doesn’t need to be perfect. It needs to be you and your own path. Challenges, doubts, even setbacks may arise, but — no matter what — you can venture on despite any perceived imperfections.
